— ART 331 — Screen Printing
Course of Study
description
This
course provides a high degree of autonomy to allow you to pursue meaningful
work.
My
expectations for our working process (in addition to those outlined in the
syllabus) are:
1. You will seek
meaningful concepts to drive your work and you will support and develop these
concepts through researching the areas and topics involved. I will provide
additional resources or materials to assist your research and will be available
for in-depth discussion in and/or outside of class.
2. You will
improve your skills and techniques in the screen printing
medium (stencil creation to printing) through practice and experimentation. You
will choose the printing processes and production appropriate to the content of
your work and I will assist you in developing your proficiency.
3. My role is to challenge
you and facilitate your creation of strong work. Your role is to actively
communicate with me and challenge yourself.
The
default framework for me to grade your work in this class is for you to develop 3 significant print collections
addressing topics of your choice; this wording is intentionally loose to
accommodate a variety of production results. Assignment submission would
coincide with the ART 231 class critique so your work would be part of the critique.
In addition to your work you will need to submit visual evidence of development
in your work. This may include multiple stencil designs/sketches (digital or
otherwise), a number of print experiments (similar to the process in ART 231),
or multiple directions represented in your print collection (for example more
than one limited edition).
You
may propose a different framework than the one outlined above for my approval.
assignment:
1. Please email
me a list of topics/concepts you may want to address in your 3 print
collections OR email me your
independent proposal/framework for this course.
2. Email me any
other questions, comments, concerns, or things you feel I should know to best
address your needs in this class.
