STUDIO SEMINAR (CAPSTONE)
Process Journal
5 Graded Entries
overview:
You will have five online Process
Journal entries using the Quiz section of D2L. Each due date you will be
provided with 1-3 prompts to respond to in writing (prompts are in the
D2L quiz). Each entry is worth two points and due before midnight on the due
date.
In addition to these required online
entries you are strongly encouraged to have a dedicated analog
process journal (sometimes referred to as a process book or research journal)
where you compile information and record on an on-going basis all research
activities related to your thesis project and the coursework.
What you might include in your suggested analog process journal
• your thoughts related to your thesis
project and research topic such as interesting questions and problems that
arise as well as possible solutions
• notations on your discoveries along
the way
• notes from individual meetings with
the professor, visiting artists and peers
• references to read or view
• notes on articles and books you read
about your topic
• drawings or other preparatory
studies for all aspects of the project
• reference and inspiration images or
other art materials collected for the project
• documentation on your investigation
of art supplies and/or processes
• lists of pertinent vendors,
suppliers, stores etc. for materials or processes
• summarize your accomplishments in
the studio, note goals for the next week and list any new conceptual
developments or theoretical challenges they are processing.
• carry your journal
with you at all times - you never know when you will get an idea or
insight
• make short notations at any given
time when ideas/solutions to problems come to you, but also when you are
reading relevant material and/or collecting images or other visual information.
