syllabus — ART 392 — SENIOR
STUDIO SEMINAR (CAPSTONE)
Art Thesis Project
overview:
Students are required to produce a visual art
thesis project that is a comprehensive investigation of a specific topic of the
students choice, resulting in a refined finalized
artwork appropriate for public exhibition. This work should be informed by
concepts and processes present in the students current
body of work and draw from their studio art and liberal arts educational
background.
* Projects that are not
fully realized or presented professionally and fail to meet the standards of
the museum and the professor will not be included in the exhibition.*
Pay special attention to how your work will be installed. 2D works must be
professionally framed with appropriate hanging hardware. Plan
ahead, do not wait until the last minute to figure this out!
* LATE WORK cannot be
accepted for display in the exhibition.

consideration for thesis project:
• Concept / Intent: What is the work
about?
• Context: What is the intellectual,
social, or contemporary framework of your project?
• Media: How does the media you chose
inform your work?
• Cultural Significance: Where does
your project fit within the social world? How does it dissent from or build
upon current or traditional cultural precedence?
• Artistic Significance: Where does
your project fit within the contemporary art world? How does it dissent from
traditional classification or extend existing dialogues in contemporary art?
How does it demonstrate personal artistic growth?
