syllabus — ART 394 — PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN THE STUDIO

Professional Application(s)

brief description:

Choose an art application that is relevant to your chosen area within the arts and complete it including all of the necessary components, so it is prepared for submission.

You may choose one of the following application avenues:

project submission (to me):

All items must be submitted to D2L on or before our class FINAL.

·       A copy of items that were submitted in the application (PDFs, JPGs, DOCs, email correspondence, etc. I do not need grade transcripts). These should be labeled with your last name in the file name.

·       A verification that items were uploaded and/or submitted (a PDF of an email verification or screen capture of the submission page or verification is great).
NOTE: I will not require that you hit the final button to submit the application. You do NOT need to pay a fee to complete the assignment. Simply save the completed application as a PDF before paying the fee (to save a PDF you can go to “print” and choose “save to PDF” from the print menu) or screen capture the full completed application.

possible opportunities:

Luminarts Cultural Foundation Visual Arts Grant (website)
The Visual Arts Competition awards five $5,000 grant awards and Luminarts Fellowships for excellence in visual arts (drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, moving image). Students currently enrolled in a recognized arts program are eligible. Applicants submit their images online for a preliminary blind juror panel. Finalists are selected for a second juror process that takes place in a gallery exhibition at the Union League Club of Chicago.

Bolt Residency Program (website)
The Bolt Residency program is run by the Chicago Artists Coalition and is highly competitive. Artists awarded residencies will receive subsidized studio space for one year, in addition to multiple opportunities for community building, exhibitions and professional development. You will need to sign up for a Slideroom account to apply. Please note that there is a $15 application fee. You do NOT need to pay the fee to complete the assignment. Simply save the completed application as a PDF before paying the fee. (However, you are currently eligible for this program, so if you want to apply you can pay the fee.)

ACRE Residency Program (website)
The ACRE Residency offers short-term summer programs in rural Wisconsin. Access to studio space, specialized facilities, and group critiques with other artists and instructors is provided, along with room and board, at a subsidized rate. Please note that there is a $25 application fee. You do NOT need to pay the fee to complete the assignment. Simply save the completed application as a PDF before paying the fee.
